Editor’s Note: This week, Jeff Friedman, founder and CEO of Livingston Philanthropies, Inc. (LPI), explains in his own words how the organization distributes goods and necessities to the disenfranchised.

Attorney Brian Block, who manages charitable giving initiatives at Mandelbaum-Barrett in Roseland said, “We are pleased to once again partner with Livingston Philanthropies.”
Block and altruistic colleagues collected a cadre of new and gently used family clothing and footwear for donation to Livingston Philanthropies, Inc. (LPI), where our mission is “providing for the homeless, profoundly poor and disenfranchised.”
On the other end of the LPI operation, Mandelbaum-Barrett’s weighty collection was delivered just 30 minutes later to longtime distribution partner, Bessie Green Community in Newark. “We appreciate you,” Bessie Green manager Monique Kelly said.
It’s always fun visiting with Monique, executive director Brenda Scott and staffers Leonard and Lorenzo. I’ve known Leonard for about ten years and recently learned something about his interesting back-story. My plan is to conduct an interview with Leonard soon for reporting to stalwart West Essex Tribune readers right here.
I’m once again and respectfully asking our local organizations to partner with LPI. Religious institutions, service organizations, businesses, corporations and families are invited to create volunteer collections of diapers, lotion, wipes, toiletries of all sizes, new and gently used family clothing, footwear and more.
Livingston Philanthropies is here to serve all year long, each year, and now into our 12th season of giving.

Livingston Philanthropies, Inc. (LPI) has put out a call for donations to its “Trish Duffy Toiletries and Cosmetics Challenge.”
Travel and regular sized toiletries are being collected for distribution to the homeless through the initiative, named for the late Livingston resident and real estate associate.
Donations of new items of all sizes can be dropped at Coldwell Banker Mt. Pleasant Realty, at 2 Mt. Pleasant Avenue. Donors can also send Friedman an email at [email protected]. There is a particular need for diapers.
