Roger Norman Nelson, of Roseland, died peacefully onApril 6 after a long courageous battle with cancer.

Roger’s life began on May 27, 1947 in Brooklyn, New York. Born to proud Norwegian parents, “Millie and Ray” Nelson, his family moved to Livingston in 1962. Roger attended Livingston High School, where he was voted best looking in his class. After graduating in 1965, he briefly pursued a career in drafting but shortly thereafter joined theArmy, where he became a Sergeant in the military police while stationed in Germany. Post military, he found his niche in the bartending/restaurant service industry. He spent many happy years doing what he loved most. The very thing that ultimately led to the love, respect, and admiration of his many treasured guests over the years and most recently at the Highlawn in West Orange. Roger was a beacon of light, warmly greeting each and every guest with his broad smile, a handshake, and hug. He prided himself in knowing most everyone’s names. He made everyone feel at home and special.
