Born and raised in Newark, she had lived in Livingston for the past 44 years.

Surviving are her husband, Judge Theodore Winard, children: Nancy and Michael Winard, plus many nieces and nephews. Gayle was predeceased by her sister, Diana Rosenbluth and brother, Seymour Levin.

Gayle was a fourth grade elementary school teacher in the Newark public school system, and a member of the Sisterhood of Suburban Torah Synagogue.
