Rose Marie DeGeorge

Rose Marie DeGeorge

Born Rose Marie Scudese in Jersey City on March 14, 1929, Rose entered into eternal life on July 29, 2024. Rose was the oldest of three daughters born to the late Mary (Galligano) and Frank Scudese.

The most important things to her were faith and family. Her Catholic faith was the force that sustained her throughout the many, many joys and sorrows that touched her during the past 95 years. In 1952, she married Gibby (Gabriel) De-George. Together they created their not so little family of seven children, starting out in Jersey City and then settling in Livingston. When Gibby died in 1973, Rose continued on, honoring his memory and his legacy. She resumed her career as a secretary, which was put on hold for 21 years (for obvious reasons!), this time as an employee at St. Philomena rectory, a position she held until her retirement. She was also an active member of the parish Rosary Society.

“Grandma Rosie’s Meatballs” will forever be one of the most favorite memories that we all cherish.

Rose was also preceded in death by her sisters, Anna McDuffee and Eleanor Feldmann.

She was the proud mother of seven children, sixteen grandchildren, and sixteen (soon to be seventeen) great-grandchildren: Her children are Rosemary (Rich) Celestino, Bernadette (Tony) DeSimone, Joseph (Carol) DeGeorge, Frank (Donna) DeGeorge, Marilyn (Tommy) Havrilla, Geralyn (John) Kovach, and Michael (Linda) DeGeorge.

Her grandchildern are Jessica Mennella, James Celestino, Matthew (Dawn) Celestino, Michael Celestino; Daniel (Christina) DeGeorge,Alexandra (Evan) Ganley; Dominic (Regina) DeGeorge, Christopher (Soleil) DeGeorge, Victoria (Andrew) Delia; Emilyrose (Christopher) Manfredonia, Alexis Havrilla; Gabriel Kovach; Gabriela, Tyler, Juliana, and Zachary DeGeorge.

Her sixteen great-grandchildren are Corporal Alexander Mennella, Nicholas Mennella;Aiden, Zander, and Tarek Celestino; Brooks and Maxwell DeGeorge; Conor and Cooper Ganley; Enzo DeGeorge; Lucas, Mia, and Miles DeGeorge; Gemma, Ryan, and Matthew Manfredonia.
