Mr. McCarthy was born on June 1, 1936 in Newark, but spent most of his childhood in Livingston.

He married Mary Ann Adams in 1960, and they raised their family in Succasunna.

Mr. McCarthy was predeceased by his wife and brother, Thomas McCarthy.

He is survived by his three daughters, Theresa McCarthy-Brow, Patti Noonan, and Sue Scarpa; two sons, Christopher McCarthy and Kevin McCarthy; his brother, Michael McCarthy; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church in Tabb, Virginia. Inurnment in the church columbarium will follow. The family has suggested that memorial contributions be made to the Bay Beagle Rescue (baybeaglerescue. org).
