Dorothy E. Bennert

Dorothy “Dot” E. Bennert, age 101, of Surf City, New Jersey, passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2024. She was born on December 25, 1922, to George and Dorothea Riley in Jersey City. At the age of four, the family moved to Livingston. She graduated from West Orange High School, after which she worked for Monroe Calculating Machine Company. She enjoyed bowling and at one time was secretary of the Livingston Women’s Bowling League. In 1943, she married the love of her life, Lawrence W. Bennert Jr.

In 1983, she moved to her summer home in Surf City, which she and Lawrence purchased in 1968. It was there that Dot became a volunteer at St. Francis of Assisi Church, and for the Surf City Fire Company #1 Ladies’Auxiliary, in which she served for more than 20 years. She also volunteered at Southern Ocean Medical Center, Manahawkin.

Mrs. Bennert was predeceased by her parents, George and Dorothea; her husband, Lawrence; her brother, Vincent; and her sister, Alice. She is survived by her two sons, Larry and his wife, Linda, and Thomas and wife, Lois; her daughter, Patricia and her partner, Greg Bator; her eight grandchildren, her eight great-grandchildren; her sister, Mary Falk; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her very good friend, Pearl Bowman. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 11, 2024, at 11 a.m. at St. Francis ofAssisi, 4700 Long Beach Boulevard, Brant Beach, New Jersey 08008. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Surf City Ladies’ Auxiliary or the St. Francis Center, Brant Beach.
