Burton Schneck

Burton I. Schneck, age 93, born November 21, 1930, passed away peacefully at his home in Hallandale Beach, Florida, on October 5, 2024. Burt was born in Brooklyn, New York, and grew up in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. His parents, Joseph and Nettie Schneck, owned and operated Burtell Bakery in Greenpoint, where the family lived above the bakery. Burt attended Boy’s High School and New York University. Burt served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and then began his career in Life Insurance Sales and Management with The Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company in 1958. He then joined J.I. Kislak as a supervisor in the Life Insurance Department, and then in 1967, became a General Agent for The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America. Burt spent the next 30 years as a General Agent for Guardian Life, achieving high company honors and industry acclaim.

Burt was active in Israel Bonds, the United Jewish Appeal, and was a lifelong member of Temple Beth Shalom in Livingston.

Burt married his childhood sweetheart Evelyn Levinsky in 1952, and they remained married for 67 years. Burt and Evelyn settled in Old Bethpage, Long Island, and in 1960, relocated with their family to Livingston, New Jersey, where they lived for the next 40 years until retiring to Hallandale Beach, Florida. Burt and Evelyn loved to travel and explore the world together, to countries throughout Europe, SouthAmerica, and especially Israel, where they visited frequently on both family trips and UJAMissions. They were both avid readers, and livelong students of history and culture, and loyal patrons of Turner Classic Films.

Burt was a devoted husband and loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will always be remembered by his grandchildren for his generosity during Passover seders. Burt is predeceased by his wife, Evelyn, and his sister, Estelle Roth. He is survived by his three sons, Stewart and wife Jill, Michael and wife Michele, and Eric; his grandchildren, Avi (Jill), Arielle (Matthew), Max (Molly), Benjamin, and Jamie; and two great-grandchildren, Libby and Jack.

Services were held on Wednesday, October 9, at Bernheim-Apter Funeral Home in Livingston. Interment followed at Cedar Park/Beth El Cemetery, in Paramus.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Burt’s honor may be made to The Jewish Federation of Greater Metrowest NJ.
