Joyce Gore

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mom, sister, aunt, cousin, and grandmother, Joyce Gore (née Slavin), age 82. She departed from this world peacefully on December 19,2024, at her residence in Livingston, New Jersey, where she hadresided since 1973. She had been valiantly battling vascular dementia for the past two years.

Joyce was bom on July 2,1942, at St. Barnabas Hospital inNewark, to her parents, Marvin Slavin and Helen Slavin (née DelTufo). She graduated from Columbia High School in 1960, and continued her education, graduating from Kean University with both bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Joyce went on to establish an outstanding career as an elementary art teacher, working for the Livingston School System for almost forty years.

Joyce was very involved in her local community, volunteering for numerous township committees, and was an enthusiastic political activist. She loved this time of year, eagerly assisting with the Camuso holiday display in town. Some of the organizations she supported included the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, FOWAAnimal Rescue, Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter, and countless other animal rights organizations. Joyce loved the Jersey Shore (Seaside Park and Ocean City), her family (especially proud of her granddaughters) and friends, and anything related to the Arts. Over the years, she also enjoyed her numerous pet cats along with her legendary shopping excursions, always looking for the best deal. She will be sorely missed in Dunkin’ Donuts, TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and the ShopRite in Livingston!

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, and cats. Joyce is survived by her husband, Richard Gore; sons, Marc (Christine) and Matthew (Nicole) Gore; sister, Gail (Richard) Rowinski (née Slavin); beloved grandchildren, Jackie and Maddie Gore; niece, Susan Rowinski; nephew, Michael (Patty) Rowinski; along with countless cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and of course, her cat, Dolly.

Family and friends are welcome to pay tribute to Joyce at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 145 East Mt. Pleasant Ave, Livingston, NJ, on Monday, January 6,2025, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
