He was born on June 27, 1926 in St. Louis, Missouri. In 2020, Mr. Fitzgerald was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal for his courageous service during World War II.

Mr. Fitzgerald was predeceased by his wife, Regina; siblings, Marie and Jim; and daughter, Nancy Marchese.

He is survived by his children, Peggy Harrop, Paul Fitzgerald, David Fitzgerald, Sharon Bargoud, and Mark Fitzgerald; 20 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A visitation is scheduled for Friday, February 28, from 4 to 8 p.m. at QuinnHopping Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 1 at 10 a.m. at St. Philomena Church, followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery and Mausoleum, 225 Ridgedale Avenue, East Hanover.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Raphael’s Life House or theAlzheimer’sAssociation.
