Peter S. Safran

Peter S. Safran, formerly of Livingston, died on Thursday, February 27. He had been residing at a retirement community in Pomptom Plains for the past 12 years, after having lived in Livingston for almost 47 years.

Born in Germany to Anne and Bruno Szafranski, he grew up in Berlin and arrived in the U.S. via Ellis Island. After serving proudly in the U.S. Army in WWII, he earned his bachelor’s degree in engineering at Purdue University and a master’s degree in engineering at Carnegie Tech.

Peter worked at Westinghouse in Newark for over 30 years. He also worked at St. Clare’s Hospital in Denville, New Jersey.

Peter was predeceased by his loving wife of 56-plus years, Lynn. He is survived by their daughter, Stephanie (Kevin); son, Steven (Yael); and four grandchildren: Peter and Zachary Linder, and Priela and Yoav Safran. He was also predeceased by his daughter, Pat.

Peter was an avid card player, dedicated father, grandfather, and devoted husband. He loved to read, learn, tell stories, travel, observe the world and all its fascinating minutiae, and in his quiet way, treat others in a way that made the world a better place. He enjoyed many trips, elder hostels, and cruises with the love of his life, Lynn.
