Carl L. Sulzberger

Carl L. Sulzberger of Livingston, New Jersey, a proud 1957 graduate of Livingston’s first high school graduation class, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2023 with his loving wife Virginia at his side. He was 83 years old.

Carl earned a Bachelor of Science (1962) and a Master of Science (1966) degree, with honors, in electrical engineering from Newark College of Engineering (now NJIT). Working part time as an engineer, he attended Rutgers University’s School of Law in Newark earning a Juris Doctor degree, with honors, in 1973.

In 2002, Carl retired from Public Service Electric and Gas Company with 40 years of service. He started

as an engineer in electric utility system planning and ended as an attorney in the Law Department.

Carl has also served for many years as a volunteer in several Livingston community organizations, including the Zoning Board of Adjustment, President of Grace Lutheran Church, Camera Club Awards Chairman, and a member of the Livingston High School 1957 Class Reunion Committee.

Carl was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Louise (Mannett) Sulzberger of Livingston, New Jersey. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Virginia (Thomas); his sisterin law, Sandra (Thomas) Lefkon; his bother-in-law, Bruce Lefkon; and many cousins in Maine, Connecticut, Arizona, and Germany.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 12 from 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 145 East Mt. Pleasant Avenue, Livingston, New Jersey. The Funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 12 noon, with interment to follow at 1 p.m. at Restland Memorial Park, 77 DeForest Avenue, East Hanover, New Jersey.
