The Livingston Township Council, at its regular meeting on Monday, November 13,introducedareworked ordinance to adopt the 45 South Livingston Avenue District Redevelopment Plan. The conversation between residents and the Council became heated, at times, including some commotion when the ordinanc e was introduced following more than an hour of public comment.

The Livingston High School girls’ varsity soccer team completed an undefeated regular season and won the American Division Conference Championship. The Lancers also captured the Essex County Championship by scoring with 12 seconds left in regulation to win in overtime.

Superintendent of schools Matthew Block started the meeting by speaking about the Israel-Hamas war, andhow the district is educating students on the matter.

The Livingston High School Theater Department fall play, “Pride and Prejudice,” will be held next week. Evening performances will be held at 7 p.m. on November 16, 17, and 18. There will also be a 2 p.m. matinee on November 18.

The Livingston Fire Department responded to numerous calls over the past week, including a fire in the laundry room of the CareOne nursing facility, 68 Passaic Avenue, on Thursday, November 9.

Diane Frieman, 79, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 10, in Montclair, with her loving family members by her side. Diane graduated from Millburn High School in 1962. Diane attended Upsala College in East Orange where she was a member of the Chi Delta Sorority. She graduated in 1966. She later met William Frieman and moved to Livingston, to begin their family. Diane worked at her husband, William’s law office as a receptionist in South Orange. When they retired, they moved to the Adirondack Mountains in Jay, New York.

On Sunday, November 12, Greta A. Roesch of Livingston, died at the age of 92.

Roy Greenfield of Livingston died on November 9. He was 86 years old.

World War II veteran, Dorothy Sieger Nash, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2023, at the age of 103.

While the West Essex Tribune’s regular readership will not notice many changes to this week’s issue, some are picking up our paper for the first time. This week’s edition is a TMC (Total Market Coverage) issue, the last of four newspapers this year that we send to every home in Livingston.

The Township Council will make appointments to Livingston’s many advisory committees at the annual organizational meeting on New Year’s Day, and now is the time to apply. The Council hopes to attract new residents – and those who have not previously been active in the community – to serve on any of its many committees.

If our family can manage to avoid the onslaught of preschool-related illnesses long enough, I think that I’m in for one of the best holiday seasons of my life. My boys are now three-and-a-half years old, the perfect age to experience what makes the holidays such a special time.
