"Legendary" Cyclists Stop in Town as Part Of Cross Country "Bike 4 Friendship" Trek

A group of men who have pedaled for charity all the way across the country, from Los Angeles to Brooklyn, made a stop in Livingston along the way. The fund-raising Bike 4 Friendship trek, created by the Friendship Circle International, raised $150,000 for programs that assist special needs children, including the Friendship Circle MetroWest in Livingston. The Friendship Circle pairs teenage volunteers with children and teens who have special needs.

Teens Win Gold in JCC Maccabi Games

Temple B'nai Abraham member Jake Samuels, son of Roberta and Randy Samuels of Livingston, attended the Maccabi games in Cherry Hill, with members of the JCC MetroWest from August 10 through 15. His soccer team, which also included Livingston residents Jack Wasserman and Adam Lorimer, won the gold in overtime, remaining undefeated throughout the entire tournament. The three teens will be juniors at Livingston High School this fall.

Sunday Dodgers Defeat Staten Island

The Livingston Dodgers of the U.S. Over Thirty Baseball League, Sunday Division, went head-to-head against the first place Staten Island Bombers on Sunday, August 10, in Livingston and came away with an 8-5 win. The Dodgers have taken two of three games from the Bombers and currently trail them by one game, with two games to play.

Inaugural tevlin lacrosse festival Draws Crowd of 300 to Kelly field

More than 300 people attended the inaugural Brendan Tevlin Lacrosse Festival on Saturday, August 2, at Seton Hall Prep's Kelly Athletic Complex in West Orange. Bagpipers led the four teams of about 100 players on to the field. "It was a great way to honor Brendan," said Richard Shahpazian, one of the organizers. Tevlin, the 19 year old Livingston youth who was murdered on June 25, had been a member of the lacrosse club at the University of Richmond, where he had fi nished his freshman year. Shahpazian and Tevlin had played lacrosse together at Seton Hall Prep.

Sunday Dodgers Shut-Out Verona Twins

The Livingston Dodgers of the U.S. Over Thirty Baseball League, Sunday Division, improved their second place record to 11-4 with a 7-0 shut out win over the Verona Twins on Sunday, July 27, in Livingston. José Martinez won his ninth game on the mound against no losses. The tall right-hander surrendered only three hits while walking none. The Dodger defense, meanwhile, backed him up with three double plays.
