STORM DAMAGE: Winds from the thunderstorm in the early morning hours of Sunday August 13th knocked down a tree (above) on Mohawk Drive near Sutton Way, blocking Mohawk Drive, and taking down primary power lines and service lines to homes in the area. During the public comment portion of Monday night’s Township Council meeting, Stacey Abenstein questioned the township’s enforcement of diversity, equity and inclusion rules andregulations with regard to a recent lawsuit filed against Livingston Township and the Livingston Police Department.

An Elizabeth man is facing charges after he allegedly attempted to burglarize a car in town, Livingston Police said.

Former New Jersey Governor and current state Senator Richard Codey announced his retirement from the state legislature on Monday. Codey, whose district office is located in Livingston, will not seek re-election to the Senate, marking theendofa50year career. 76 years old, he was the state’s longest-serving senator, and had secured the democratic party’s nomination for a 14th term earlier this year. He will retire in January.

Livingston Police Officers are investigating the theft of a luxury vehicle, which was left unlocked with the key inside of it at the time it was stolen, Livingston Police said.

The Livingston Zoning Board, at a special meeting on Tuesday, August 8, approved an amended site plan by 50 E. Mt. Pleasant Ave. Associates LLC to construct a storage-only basement as part of the property’s two-story addition.

Following several recent coyote sightings in town, the Livingston Police Department andAnimal Control are both urging residents to exercise caution and awareness while walking pets near wooded areas or during dawn and dusk.

During the Tuesday, August 8, Board of Education meeting, Allen Barnett of DiCara Rubino Architects reviewed a timeline of Burnet Hill and Hillside learning annex construction. Both anticipated units are currently waiting to be delivered, shipping from Georgia.

Livingston’s Board-Town liaison committee has set the next “Five on Five” meeting for Wednesday, September 6. The date was announced at the Tuesday, August 8, Board of Education meeting.
