The Livingston Public Schools Board of Education recognized the district’s Governor’s Educators of the Year award winners at its Tuesday, May 14, meeting. The New Jersey Department of Education presents these awards to honor hardworking teachers and educational service professionals for their dedication. The winners were nominated by students, parents, and faculty members who witnessed their work firsthand.

The Livingston High School varsity history bowl team won the National History Bowl competition, which was held recently in Arlington, Virginia. Competing against the strongest 165 teams in the country, the Lancers remained undefeated throughout the entire three day tournament. The varsity team included Robert Wang, Akshaya Shanker, Aanya Rathi, Joshua Metters, and Ben Silversten.

This past week, the Livingston Fire Department responded to anumber of calls, including a May 4 house fire.

The Livingston Planning Board, during its Tuesday, May 7, conference meeting, amended the chapter 170-87 general zoning requirements of the township land use code regarding a non-residential certificate of occupancy.

In honor of AAPI Heritage Month, this May the Livingston Public Library features the display “Colors of India,” which offers an immersive journey through the vibrant world of Indian art.

All Livingston Township offices will be closed on Monday, May 27, for Memorial Day. All offices will reopen duringregular business hours on Tuesday, May 28.

Livingston’s annual “Pick It Up! ” community clean-up day will be held this weekend, on Sunday, May 5, from 9 to 11 a.m.

During its meeting on Tuesday, April 30, the Livingston Township Council passed several resolutions, introduced one ordinance, and tabled three others.

The Livingston Board of Education unanimously approved the proposed budget for the 2024-25 school year at its April 30 meeting. The budget included a total tax increase of 5.75 percent, or $6,728,883. This total increase comes from a two percent base tax increase, 0.72 percent in enrollment adjustments, and 3.04 percent of banked capital. This does not exceed the state imposed tax cap. Thomas Lambe, the Board’s business administrator, saidthatthiswould be a tax increase of $558 for the average township home priced at $721,238.

The Livingston Zoning Board, at its April 25 meeting, revisited Rodney Brown’s application for a five foot chain link fence at 201 North Livingston Avenue, approving the request. The Board then heard four more cases across the night, ultimately approving all four of them.
