Earlier this school year, Livingston High School Senior, Daisy Yao played lead alto saxophone with the Montclair-based Jazz House Kids School for Jazz Big Band at the Jazz Educators Network (JEN) Conference in New Orleans, LA. The auditiononly School for Jazz is a pre-college academy and award-winning flagship training program providing extensive instruction for advanced students from across New Jersey and New York.

MEMORIAL DAY PARADE AND CEREMONY

The Livingston Memorial Day Parade Committee has announced the line of march for the festivities on Monday, May 27.

The West Essex Tribune has taken the first step in converting to a registered 501c3 nonprofit newspaper, by entering into a fiscal sponsorship agreement with the Corporation for New Jersey Local Media.

BASEBALL TEAM WINS THREE OF FOUR

On Saturday, May 18, Sanskriti of NJ celebrated the Indian festival of Holi at the Livingston Oval. The event was open to all and hundreds of people attended the event.

Livingston Police detectives are investigating a vehicle theft that occurred earlier this week. Officers also responded to additioanl reports of theft in the past week, according to police.

At its May 21 meeting, the Livingston Planning Board approved Brightview Senior Living Development, LLC’s requests for a minor subdivision, and a preliminary and final site plan at 321 South Livingston Avenue.

The Livingston High School varsity history bowl team won the National History Bowl competition, which was held recently in Arlington, Virginia. Competing against the strongest 165 teams in the country, the Lancers remained undefeated throughout the entire three day tournament. The varsity team included Robert Wang, Akshaya Shanker, Aanya Rathi, Joshua Metters, and Ben Silversten.

With two seats on the Livingston Public Schools Board of Education up for reelection this November, the district is encouraging residents to consider running for a seat on the Board.

During its Monday, May 13, regular meeting, the Livingston Township Council passed three ordinances, including one related to the Brightview project to be built next to Town Hall. The Council also approved several resolutions, including one related to the long-planned new Department of Public Works facility.

The Livingston Public Schools Board of Education recognized the district’s Governor’s Educators of the Year award winners at its Tuesday, May 14, meeting. The New Jersey Department of Education presents these awards to honor hardworking teachers and educational service professionals for their dedication. The winners were nominated by students, parents, and faculty members who witnessed their work firsthand.
