A Livingston teenager has been charged in the slashing of the Pride banner that hung at the corner of South Livingston Avenue andNorthfieldRoad during June’s Pridemonth. The banner, displayed at Northfield Center to support the LGBTQ+ community during Pride Month, was slashed on multiple occasions.

The U.S. Army Institute for Religious Leadership welcomed Chaplain (Col.) Louis Del Tufo as its new commandant, July 28.

During the Monday, August 14, Township Council meeting, an ordinance was tabled to approve an application for a long-term tax exemption - also known as a payment in lieu of taxes, or a PILOT - and authorize the execution of a financial agreement with Brightview Livingston Urban Renewal for a planned 150-unit senior living facility.

Residents living near a proposed development at the site of the former Bottle King location spoke again in opposition to the plan at the Monday, August 14, Township Council meeting.

INDIA FEST: Sanskriti of New Jersey held its annual India Fest at the Livingston gazebo on Sunday, August 13. STORM DAMAGE: Winds from the thunderstorm in the early morning hours of Sunday August 13th knocked down a tree (above) on Mohawk Drive near Sutton Way, blocking Mohawk Drive, and taking down primary power lines and service lines to homes in the area. An Elizabeth man is facing charges after he allegedly attempted to burglarize a car in town, Livingston Police said.

Former New Jersey Governor and current state Senator Richard Codey announced his retirement from the state legislature on Monday. Codey, whose district office is located in Livingston, will not seek re-election to the Senate, marking theendofa50year career. 76 years old, he was the state’s longest-serving senator, and had secured the democratic party’s nomination for a 14th term earlier this year. He will retire in January.
