CRASH IN FRONT OF TOWN HALL

The man who is charged with stealing a Livingston Public School bus was charged on Monday and new details about the case were revealed in the court filings released by the Department of Justice.

An unspecified incident at Livingston High School resulted in a 50-minute shelter-in-place order for a student emergency at 8:16 a.m. on Thursday morning, January 26, according to district officials.

A windstorm on Wednesday evening, January 25, brought down primary electrical wires at St. Philomena Catholic Church. Firefighters reported and found the wires down and burning. They secured the area until Public Service Electric and Gas (PSE&G) personnel could make repairs.

Livingston's volunteer Fire Department responded to two fires this past week, a garbage truck fire and a small fire in a commercial water heater in a hotel.

Several topics were discussed during the conference meeting of the Township Council, held both before and after the regular meeting on Monday, January 23.

The Livingston Zoning Board of Adjustment held its reorganization meeting on Tuesday, January 24. The Board also approved three applications, including one for a PSE&G substation on North Livingston Av- enue, at its .rst meeting of the year.

GOING TO STATE FINALS

Members of the Livingston Board of Education (BOE) received their annual school ethics training during the Board’s Tuesday evening meeting. School law attorney Frances Febres conducted the training with a presentation deconstructing the New Jersey School Ethics Act and reviewing case law.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service, encouraging all Americans to volunteer in their communities. As it always does, Livingston was among many towns throughout New Jersey that joined with local organizations to honor Dr. King’s social justice teachings and give back.

The Board of Education was joined by two Livingston High School (LHS) counselors during the January 17 meeting. Sinead Crews, director of school counseling, and Nicole Rothman, who advises high school upperclassmen in their postgraduation pathway, reviewed the matriculation research they found.
