Alfred “Al” Edward Robjohns, 79, of Livingston, died on Monday, March 25. A funeral service was held at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home in Livingston on Thursday, March 28. Entombment followed at Restland Memorial Park in East Hanover. The family received their friends on Wednesday, March 27.

Barbara M. Liu, 73, died on Friday, March 29. Originally from Jing Xi, China, Mrs. Liu immigrated to the United States and resided in Forest Hills, New York, for many years, eventually settling in Livingston.

Dr. Burton Steinberg, 96, of Livingston, died on Tuesday, March 26.

Patricia Greenwald, 95, of Treasure Island, Florida, died on March 22. Born in Westfield, she was the daughter of Norma and Ralph Terhune.

Elizabeth Tartakovsky, a 2018 graduate of Livingston High School, is headed to Paris this summer to compete in her first Olympic games. A fencer for most of her life, she will be competing in the women’s sabre portion of the upcoming games, to be held in Paris from July 26 through August 11.

Fifteen-year-old Livingston resident Michael Shayevich received the General Billy Mitchell Award from the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) on January 30, during a ceremony held at the American Red Cross Northern New Jersey Headquarters in Fairfield.

Paulette Dorflaufer, Livingston’s stylish, congenial and attentive crossing guard, is called “Miss Paulette” in Burnet Hill School, where she shows her devotion to children in her role as a three-hour-a-day aide in the classroom, lunchroom, and playground.

The Livingston High School boys’ tennis team opened its 2024 season with 5-0 loss in a Super Essex Conference match against Montclair High School. Montclair is a talented veteran team with five seniors in the singles and first doubles, while Livingston played without their top two players.

George A. Ferguson, Jr., 94, a life-long resident of Livingston, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 29. George was a loving husband to Shirley A. Ferguson, who pre-deceased him in June 2020. Born in Summit, George grew up in Livingston, and was a member of both the Northfield Baptist Church of Livingston and the United Methodist Church of Livingston. He attended Grover Cleveland High School in West Caldwell, and was a star pitcher for the baseball teams. He was a member of a local jazz band and played both the clarinet and saxophone. After graduating in 1951, George enlisted in the Marines. Before leaving for boot camp, George met his future wife, Shirley, on a blind date. They were married in 1952. George was stationed in Korea and served from 1951 to 1953. Discharged in 1954, Shirley and George settled in Livingston in 1956 to raise their family.
