Next month, the Livingston Trails and Greenways committee will host two Passaic River cleanups on Saturday, April 1, and Saturday, April 22. The first of the year was held on March 18, and there are several more planned throughout the spring. These cleanups, which the committee holds periodically on weekends in spring through fall, offer residents a fun opportunity to get to know a slice of Livingston about which many people are unaware. It is also a necessary task to keep the waters pristine for animals and humans alike.

License Plate Readers

Earlier this month, the Township Council approved a $170,000 contract with Gold Type Business Machines for the purchase of license plate reader cameras (LPRs). These cameras will be installed at specific thruways leading out of Livingston, in an effort to help combat the rash of car thefts that have occurred in town in recent years. Auto theft is certainly an issue, with over 100 cars stolen in Livingston in the past three years (and it must be noted that most, but not all, of them were unlocked with the key fobs left in them).

Lancer Ice Hockey Finishes Season Strong

The Livingston High School ice hockey team recently finished a successful season, according to head coach David Conklin. The Lancers ranked 21st in the state for both private and public schools. The team also finished second in the State Public A division. Its record is 14-6-4.

Township Council Passes Ordinances
Township Council Passes Ordinances

The Livingston Township Council passed two ordinances and introduced two ordinances, at its Monday, March 27, regular meeting. Several resolutions also passed, which included the approval of several contracts, waiving outstanding taxes for certain properties, and changing fees for certain events in town.

Glenn Turtletaub, the former longtime township clerk was honored by town officials and several former mayors during the Monday, March 27, Township Council meeting. A reception was also held for Turtletaub prior to the start of the meeting.

STATE AND DISTRICT CHAMPS

STATE AND DISTRICT CHAMPS: Jayden Rogers, David Weinrib, Eli Wheeler, and Ryan Korn, shown left, will be representing the Atlantic District after winning the 14U-AA State and District Championships. All four freshmen currently attend Livingston High School and play ice hockey for the Montclair Blues 14U-AAclub hockey team. The team has qualified to compete for the 2023 USA Hockey National Championship. The tournament will be held in Denver, Colorado from March 29 to April 3.
