Dear Editor: This is my 50th year as a volunteer in Livingston. I started in 1973, joining the FirstAid Squad. Shortly after that, I joined the Fire Department, and left after 46 years.

Reconsider Development
Dear Editor: Does Livingston need the 45 South Livingston Avenue redevelopment project? The density for this location will be greater than any other area in town. Why do we need such density close to one of the town’s busiest intersections? Exiting from Arden onto South Livingston Avenue can be very difficult around 4 p.m. That is already quite far from the intersection. How will 276 apartments complicate this equation?

Township Council Tables Long-Term Tax Exemption
During the Monday, August 14, Township Council meeting, an ordinance was tabled to approve an application for a long-term tax exemption - also known as a payment in lieu of taxes, or a PILOT - and authorize the execution of a financial agreement with Brightview Livingston Urban Renewal for a planned 150-unit senior living facility.

INDIA FEST: Sanskriti of New Jersey held its annual India Fest at the Livingston gazebo on Sunday, August 13. STORM DAMAGE
STORM DAMAGE: Winds from the thunderstorm in the early morning hours of Sunday August 13th knocked down a tree (above) on Mohawk Drive near Sutton Way, blocking Mohawk Drive, and taking down primary power lines and service lines to homes in the area. It also took down a large branch onto the roof of the house below on Shadowlawn Drive near Ridgewood Drive. Power wasn’t restored in the area until late in the day on Sunday. Jerry Siskind Photos

Former Gov. Codey to Retire: “Time For Me to Say Goodbye”
Former New Jersey Governor and current state Senator Richard Codey announced his retirement from the state legislature on Monday. Codey, whose district office is located in Livingston, will not seek re-election to the Senate, marking theendofa50year career. 76 years old, he was the state’s longest-serving senator, and had secured the democratic party’s nomination for a 14th term earlier this year. He will retire in January.
